In preparation for the Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, sensitive electoral materials have been successfully delivered to Akure, the state capital.
These materials, essential for the smooth conduct of the election, were transported under high security by the Nigerian Airforce and received by officials of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The sensitive materials include ballot papers, result sheets, and other critical election resources, all handled with stringent security protocols to ensure their safety and integrity.
According to officials, the CBN in Akure will securely store these materials until they are dispatched to various local government areas across the state closer to the election date.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the public that all preparations are on track to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.
As the Ondo State governorship election approaches, Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured that the commission is well-prepared to overcome past challenges and deliver a smooth election process.
During his visit to the INEC headquarters in Akure on Monday, Yakubu outlined key steps being taken to ensure an efficient and credible election on November 16.
Yakubu emphasized the lessons learned from previous elections, particularly in handling logistics and results management.
“We have learnt a lot of lessons not only from the last election but also from previous elections. Basically, there are two challenges; the first one is logistics for election, so that polling units open promptly on election day,” he said.
To bolster election readiness, Yakubu stated that INEC would hold meetings with various stakeholders, including political parties, civil society organizations, the media, and security agencies.
Additionally, mock voter accreditation will be conducted across 16 polling units in six local government areas to test the commission’s preparations.
Yakubu also announced that the National Peace Committee would facilitate the signing of a peace accord, bringing together all stakeholders to foster a peaceful election environment.
