A bill for the establishment of the Ondo State Coastal Management Agency scaled through its first reading during a plenary sitting of the Ondo State House of Assembly. The bill, sponsored by Hon. (Primate) Oluwatoyin Allen, the member representing Ese-Odo Constituency, is aimed at promoting the sustainable development of the state’s coastal communities.
The bill’s passage through its first reading paves the way for further deliberations and subsequently, public input.
In his remarks, during the plenary session held on Thursday June 26 and presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt.Hon(Chief) Olamide Oladiji, at the House of Assembly Complex in Akure, Hon. Allen emphasized the importance of effective coastal management in driving economic growth and improving the livelihoods of communities along the coast.
He noted that the proposed agency would play a critical role in regulating activities in the coastal areas, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable development.
The honourable lawmaker stressed the vast economic potential of Ondo State’s coastal areas and expressed optimism that the bill would receive the necessary support and become a reality.
In a related development, Hon. Allen was reappointed as the Chairman of the House Committee on OSOPADEC as the House set up standing committees during the plenary sitting.
