Tension erupted in Akure on Friday as newly recruited teachers staged a protest at the Ondo State Governor’s office, Alagbaka, over their exclusion from an ongoing capturing exercise conducted by the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The aggrieved teachers, who were initially issued appointment letters by SUBEB and the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), alleged foul play after being denied recognition in the recruitment process.
According to eyewitness accounts, the protesters accused some officials in SUBEB and TESCOM of issuing “backdoor” appointment letters, which have now been branded fake by the authorities.
“We were recruited like every other teacher, only to be told now that our letters are fake. This is injustice, and we want Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene,” one of the protesters lamented.
Officials insist the disqualified teachers were victims of fraudulent appointments engineered by corrupt insiders within the education boards.
The protest caused traffic disruption around the Government House axis as security operatives were deployed to forestall breakdown of order.
