In a dramatic twist that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s aviation and entertainment circles, Captain Ranti, the pilot in command of Flight VK201 from Abuja to Lagos, has broken her silence over the incident involving Fuji legend KWAM 1 (K1).
According to Captain Ranti, boarding commenced on schedule at 8:10 am, but by 8:15–8:20 am, KWAM 1 approached the aircraft carrying a gold flask whose content was unknown.
Routine turns to drama
Ground staff, following standard safety procedure, politely requested to verify the flask’s content. The pilot’s account alleges that KWAM 1 refused outright, reportedly sipping from it and dismissing the request with the words:
“Do you know who I am? You have no right to tell me to open my flask.”
Security personnel at the aircraft’s foot also reiterated the inspection requirement. According to Captain Ranti, the situation escalated as KWAM 1 became confrontational, disrupting the boarding process.
The shocking moment
In an effort to calm tensions, Captain Ranti personally approached the veteran musician — only for KWAM 1 to allegedly open the flask and pour its contents on her, the security team, and nearby passengers.
Following the incident, airport security intervened, and the Head of Security ordered that KWAM 1 should not be allowed to board.
Captain Ranti, placing passenger and crew safety first, agreed. However, she said KWAM 1 lingered around the aircraft, blocking movement and causing further delay until security successfully cleared the area.
Final departure time: The aircraft eventually departed at 8:50 am, nearly 40 minutes late.
